Zambia Sugar products are marketed under the WHITESPOON brand. The Whitespoon product range for direct consumption sugar, includes Brown, Household, Refined, Castor, Icing, Rich Dark, Golden Syrup, Treacle Syrup, and Maple Syrup,. Zambia Sugar has a well-developed local distribution network delivering sugar to all districts in Zambia. This is done through a well organised depot system that ensures Whitespoon products are available, anywhere and everywhere in Zambia. Molasses, a by-product of sugar is also marketed by Zambia Sugar mainly in the manufacture of yeast and in the livestock feed industry as a supplement. Whitespoon Industrial Sugar range which includes Industrial Brown, Industrial Household, Bottler grade and Golden Farmhouse is used in the beverages, confectionery and food processing industries, while Raw sugar is used for refining.

Zambia’s strategic location in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region positions Zambia Sugar to be a supplier of choice for quality sugar and downstream products in the region and beyond. Approximately two thirds of the sugar produced is exported mainly into the African Regional Market. The regional export market includes the Great Lakes Area (GLA), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Southern Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and Kenya. The regional market is supplied with Household Sugar, Brown Sugar and Industrial Refined Sugar. Molasses is mainly exported to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Whitespoon Refined Sugar


Whitespoon Refined Sugar is a sugar produced by refining cane sugar. It is very white in appearance and has been enjoyed by Zambians for over 50 years. It is a very versatile sugar.
Uses: As a sweetener for coffee and tea and for sprinkling over breakfast cereals. In baking, especially for rubbed in mixtures such as crumbles or cakes, it can also be used for creamed mixtures such as Victoria sandwiches or Madeira cake or simply to sweeten stewed fruit such as plums and apples.
To store: Keep in a cool, dry place for up to 1 year and once opened store in an airtight container to prevent the sugar from going hard or damp.

Whitespoon Household Sugar

Whitespoon Household Sugar (Cane sugar) is the most popular type of sugar; this is the one type that everyone will have a packet of in their cupboard. Household Sugar is made by crystallising the natural juice from sugar cane. It is excellent for sprinkling and including in recipes.
Uses: For sweetening coffee and tea, homemade fruit juices, sprinkling over fresh fruit or cereals or including in creamed mixtures, meringues and baking.
To store: Keep in a cool, dry place for up to 1 year and once opened store in an airtight container to prevent the sugar from going hard or damp.

Whitespoon Brown Sugar

Whitespoon Brown Sugar has a soft, fine grained texture. It has a rounded flavour and is light golden in colour.


Uses: It is delicious in light fruit cakes, biscuits and creamed mixtures it gives a subtle caramel flavour. It is good for adding to coffee, Munkoyo and other traditional drinks too.

Whitespoon Rich Dark Brown Sugar


Whitespoon Rich Dark Sugar is a soft, moist fine-grained sugar that is full of natural molasses and so has a distinctive dark brown colour and rich flavour.
Uses: Molasses sugar is the traditional sugar for Christmas cakes and puddings and all dark fruit cakes. It is also used for chutneys, pickles, marinades or in any dish where a rich colour and sweet flavour is required. Rich Dark is delicious in oat porridge

Whitespoon Castor sugar

Whitespoon Castor Sugar’s very fine crystals make it excellent for sprinkling and including in recipes. It is ideal for sprinkling over fresh fruit or cereals or including in creamed mixtures, meringues and baking.

Whitespoon Icing Sugar

Whitespoon Icing Sugar is a very fine sugar powder, and a versatile ingredient in cooking. It is different from other types of sugar in that it dissolves very quickly in cold water. It is ideal for dusting over cakes, pies and pastries to sweeten as well as to add an attractive decorative touch. It is also used to make icings and fondants for cakes and sweets.
Store:simply keep in a cool, dry place for up to 1 year (for Castor) and up to 6 months for icing sugar. Once opened, store in an airtight container to prevent the sugar from going hard or getting damp.

Whitespoon Golden Syrup

Whitespoon Golden syrup is a thick, amber-colored form of inverted sugar syrup, made in the process of refining sugar cane juice into sugar.

Whitespoon Treacle Syrup is thick dark syrup (molasses) derived from the juice of the sugarcane plant produced from the processing of sugar cane juice into sugar.

Whitespoon Maple Syrup is a thick syrup lighter than the Whitespoon Treacle but darker than Whitespoon Golden syrup. It is made from the process of made in the process of refining sugar cane juice into sugar.


Uses: Try any of our three syrups as a spread with butter, margarine or peanut butter on your bread. Whitespoon syrups are irresistible on pancakes or vitumbuwas.
